Where to Run SAP HANA?
It's Already in Your Data Center.
AP and IBM Power Systems* clients who have not yet migrated to SAP HANA-
listen up! Are you ready to implement SAP S/4HANA? Not sure? Not Ready?
Nervous? In fact, you may have heard all about the issues and complexities
of moving to SAP S/4HANA from the rumor mill.
There's one thing you don't
need to worry about-the infrastructure deployment of SAP
S/4HANA. You have three simple
options: cloud, on-premises
with IBM Power Systems and
on-premises with commodity x86.
If you're like the 6,000 other SAP
clients running AIX* or IBM i on
IBM Power Systems for non-HANA
SAP applications, your choice
becomes even easier.
Reliable and Flexible
If you're comfortable with the
reliability of running your
organization's "crown jewels"
on Power Systems, then why not
continue to use the platform? You
know firsthand it's incredibly
reliable, which should give you
one less worry when moving to
SAP S/4HANA. In fact, according
to the 2017 ITIC Global Hardware and Server OS Reliability
Report (ibm.co/2u0S3iO), the IBM
Power Systems platform has the
least amount of unplanned downtime, with 2.5 minutes per server/
per year of any mainstream
Linux* server platforms, and up
to 99.99 percent uptime.
The next question to ask yourself is whether you want to worry
about flexibility, virtualization,
utilization, scaling and ease of
use as you take the SAP S/4HANA
journey. If you're happy with
IBM PowerVM* as your virtualization solution and like the idea of
spinning up LPARs/VMs "on the
fly" for DevOps, then why change?
You also have the flexibility to
manage your PowerVM from
within your VMware environment.
Even if you're running a
traditional SAP setup on IBM
Power Systems, you can easily
start your SAP HANA journey
simply by just carving out an
LPAR for the SAP HANA workload
(assuming you have the capacity).
Finally, as more organizations
look to run workloads in a

cloud, wouldn't it be great to
have the benefits of your own
private cloud running SAP
S/4HANA, without worrying
about the downsides of cloud
deployments? With IBM Power
Systems, you can use solutions
for SAP HANA such as Capacity
on Demand (cloud facilitates
"pay as you go" pricing); IBM
Cloud Manager, orchestration,
automation, billing and metering; as well as automatic integration with OpenStack, VMware
vRealize and other cloud solutions. You can have a seamless
cloud-like environment for SAP
HANA-all while leveraging the
comfort of your own security,
system management, networks,
high availability processes and
procedures, etc. And if you

model, tap into our 50-plus
You have enough to worry
about with the functional aspects
of implementing SAP S/4HANA;
don't worry about your infrastructure because your organization runs on IBM Power Systems.
And when it comes to implementation, IBM Lab Services is here
