TRENDS SERVICES on the 8s Two Lab Services offerings benefit clients installing POWER8 servers T he IBM Systems Lab Services organization dates back to the 1990s. Its mission is to help IBM clients accelerate the adoption of new IBM hardware and software technologies to better accomplish their business goals. Lab Services' experience with early technology adopters enables support for clients in server migrations that coincide with a range of calendar dates and migration timelines. Alan Wilcox is a senior certified executive IT specialist with IBM Lab Services. Power Systems* clients purchasing and deploying POWER8* servers can benefit from the services IBM Lab Services offers-including preorder review, installation planning, automated tools for provisioning and migration, and operational readiness reviews. Two primary services clients should know about are POWER8 Transition Workshop and POWER8 Provisioning Assurance. 8 // NOVEMBER 2015 Enterprise clients who purchase a Power Systems E880 or E870 also receive a services credit called PowerCare, which funds the time and travel of the Lab Services consultant who delivers these offerings. See Figure 1 (page 11) for a timeline of services. Lab Services helps clients develop a migration plan customized to their environment and skills. And once a client's POWER8 systems have been shipped and physically installed at their site, Lab Services can provide installation assistance through the PowerVM* Advanced Provisioning Toolkit, as well as IBM's licensed program, PowerVC. Migration assistance can be provided via the Lab Services LPM Automation Tool. Both
