Snapshot Meet your peers Carey Takes Vacation Seriously How did you end up in IT? It was a circuitous route. I studied biology as an undergraduate and had very limited exposure to computers. I was working inside sales for a scientific supply house and discovered I had an aptitude for IT as we were installing a new distribution system. If you weren’t in IT, what job would you want? I’d love to act professionally, especially improvisational acting. Either that or a Disney Imagineer! What’s your favorite activity outside of work? Vacation! Seriously, my family and I love to travel. We frequent the big theme parks on both coasts and have even done a four-country trip to Europe from Rome to Dublin. Our last big trip was the kids’ first time to New York City to explore museums and see Broadway shows. Who’s your favorite musical artist? The Beatles, The Talking Heads and Peter Gabriel What’s the best movie you’ve seen recently? Inception. A popcorn action film for the mind! What superpower do you wish you had? Power over all molecules. I never understood why Molecule Man never just took over the world. If you were stuck on a desert island, what one item would you want with you? I’d say an iPad, but then I’d need 3G access, electricity to charge and shade. Failing that, maybe a Kindle. I could probably get through quite a few books before the charge went out! Failing that, the complete works of Fyodor Dostoyevsky. Who’s been your greatest mentor? Pam Chesna-Kraft. She was my boss once, has been a friend since and now is a manager at SXC. She’s really been a great influence on my development in IT. 40 AUGUST 2011 PHOTO BY DAVID J.
