Our biggest challenge today is maintaining current service levels with a rapidly shrinking budget. It’s a big challenge, but it’s also an opportunity to become more innovative and efficient. What will be the next big thing for your business? Doing more with less. What business skill would you most like to acquire or improve? I am always looking to improve my UNIX* and Perl skills. What’s your favorite IBM product and why? I am a big UNIX fan, so it would have to be AIX*. It’s a super-solid platform. PHOTO BY DENNIS WISE, STUDIO 3 If you weren’t in IT, what job would you want? I don’t know if there’s anything I would rather be doing. I really enjoy my job and the people I work with. What’s your favorite activity outside of work? Spending time with my wife and four children. What’s the geekiest thing you’ve ever done or owned? I never really considered myself much of a geek until I started working in IT. I was working in the public-safety field and became very interested in the computer system all of the law-enforcement agencies in Skagit County use. When a job opportunity presented itself to manage this system, I jumped on it. That career change was one of the best decisions of my life. 56 FEBRUARY 2010 My guilty pleasure is Coca-Cola and Krispy Kreme doughnuts.
